Athena Trivia, LLC ("we," "us," or "our") runs Athena Trivia: our website at athenatrivia.com, the free demo, the player app at play.athenatrivia.com and our iOS and Android apps, our TV app, and the venue dashboard (together, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have.
When a business signs up for the venue dashboard, we collect the account holder's name, email address, and mobile phone number, a password, the company and venue names, and, if provided, the venue's address. Passwords are stored only in hashed form. We use the phone number to contact you about your account and to limit free trials to one per person, not for marketing. Staff accounts have a name, email address, and password. Venues can also upload a logo.
Subscriptions are billed through Stripe. You enter card details on Stripe's pages, and we never see or store them. We share your email address and company name with Stripe, and keep the subscription details Stripe returns to us, such as its status and renewal date.
To play in a web browser, you only enter a nickname and a game code. No account is needed. While a game is running, we hold your nickname, scores, votes, and what you play, such as answers and Sketch & Guess drawings. This live game data is temporary and expires within hours of the game ending. We also keep a record of game activity, including nicknames, when players join and leave, the games they vote for, and the kinds of actions they take (not their answers or drawings), to run, protect, and improve the Service.
If you create an account in our iOS or Android app, we collect your mobile phone number, a display name, and a password (stored only in hashed form), and we verify your number with a code sent by text message. When you join a game while signed in, that game activity is linked to your account. If the app offers in-app purchases, Apple or Google handles the payment, and we keep a record of each purchase, such as the product and the store's transaction ID.
If you allow it, our apps use your location on your device to show venues near you on a map. Your exact location is not sent to us: the app asks us for the venues inside the area shown on the map, and we don't store that request. The camera is used only to scan QR codes on your device, and we don't receive the images.
To start a free demo, you give us a US or Canadian mobile number, and we text it a one-time code. We keep the number with a record of each demo (such as when it ran and how it ended) and the browser and device details of the screen and phone you used. We use this to limit free demos per number and to prevent abuse.
When you use our contact form, we receive your name, email address, message, and, if you give it, your phone number by email, and use them to reply to you.
If you opt in by submitting your mobile number and checking the consent box on our website, we collect and store your phone number and the date and details of your consent for the sole purpose of sending you marketing text messages (such as product news, new game announcements, free-trial reminders, and special offers).
We do not sell, rent, or share your mobile phone number or SMS consent with any third parties or affiliates for their own marketing purposes. Phone numbers collected for SMS are shared only with the messaging provider that delivers the texts on our behalf, and only as needed to send the messages you requested. No mobile information is shared with third parties for their marketing or promotional use.
Message frequency varies (typically up to 6 messages per month). Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP at any time to unsubscribe, or HELP for assistance. Consent to receive marketing texts is not a condition of purchasing any goods or services.
Separately, we text one-time verification codes when you create a player account or start a free demo. These are sent only when you ask for them and are not marketing messages.
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in these ways:
All of the above exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
We don't set cookies of our own. Google Analytics sets cookies (such as _ga) on
athenatrivia.com and the venue dashboard. Embedded YouTube videos and Cloudflare's bot check
may set their own cookies. Our apps use your browser's local storage to keep you signed in, to
let you rejoin a game if you lose your connection, and to remember your last nickname and game
code.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics with Google's opt-out browser add-on. Our Service does not respond to "Do Not Track" signals. Google Analytics may collect information about your online activity over time and across different websites.
Live game data expires within hours of a game ending, verification codes within 10 minutes, and server log files generally within 14 days. We keep account information while the account is open, and other records, such as subscription records, demo records, and game activity, for as long as we need them for the purposes described in this policy or as the law requires. You can ask us to delete your information at any time (see section 7).
We protect information with measures such as encrypted connections and hashed passwords. No method of sending or storing information is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and players must be at least 13 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information, including mobile numbers, from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
We and our service providers process information in the United States and other countries whose data protection laws may differ from those where you live.
The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
